Is developing a business case quite challenging??
Gartner research delivers effective steps to develop a business case for governance in its 5 steps to build a business case.
As per Gartner “Data and Analytics leaders often find it challenging to create a convincing business case for data and analytics governance improvement. Typically, their business case is technical, complex and data-and-analytics-centric. This leaves business people feeling confused, disconnected and uninterested".
Gartner says “Improve the success of the business case by taking this five-step approach, which focuses on the following key areas: the problem, impact, proposal, approach and financials.”
Here is the step 1 to build a compelling business case for Data and Analytics Governance
Step-1: Identify which Business Outcomes cannot be delivered because of poor or no Data and Analytics Governance
The first step is to present business leaders with a problem statement that they can recognize and “own.” This requires *
- Identifying the strategic business outcomes and their relative priorities.
- Direct engagement with key business leaders to find out where data and analytics is working, and where it is not.
- Assessment of current and historic internal audit reports, to understand the impact that poor data and analytics governance has already had on the organization.
- Validation of the problem statement with key business stakeholders.
